On this day I was thrilled with the idea of walking to this “blue lagoon” spot that from google maps seems to be looking gorgeous. I was hoping to find a beautiful Con Dao beach too. I was wrong though…
So, first I went to the Con Dao beach in front of the airport where you can see the airplanes landing a few meters above your head– powerful. I have had this experience in Phuket before, but it was nice to see this again. Wooow it is cool and exciting to see such a big thing approaching you. Feels almost like you can touch the plane haha. This is in Bai Bien Dong.
Bai Bien Dong
This Con Dao beach is very deserted!! There is one resort and near it is the only beach access I have noticed. Well, I have seen another dirt path leading to Bai Bien Dong, but with all the rain it was muddy, and looking sketchy to ride a motorbike, so I chose not to use it. It would have been more convenient as it would save me many minutes of beach walk.
I stopped at this beach to head to the trail leading to the lagoon. I started next to Paulo Condor Resort and walked all the way to Mui da Hinh, the other end of the beach.
This beach walk takes approximately 30 minutes. It is a wide beach depleted of shade. I got very sunburned. This was the only sunny day I’ve seen in Con Dao Islands- lucky me haha
So, Bai Bien Dong beach is very wide, clean, and empty but offers no shade… But, there were some empty beach chairs from the resort… maybe you can sneak in one of those and enjoy the day … there is no one around anyway.
Anyway, I walked from one end to the other end of Bai Bein Dong, and on the other side, I found a jungle trail that leads to the lagoon. There is a sign saying to buy a National Park ticket but no place to buy it… I proceeded. It is a very pleasant walk in the jungle. The path is cemented and quite flat, very easily done even though it is quite long. At the end of the trail is a house and a guy that will sell you the ticket.
Vinh Dam Tre
There is a view of the ocean and the lagoon and I’m not impressed haha. Haaaa I couldn’t believe I wasted the only sunny day on Con Dao islands to visit this viewpoint. No amazing shades of blue, and the water colors are very average, nothing special about this view honestly. But, this might be a place to rent a small boat and go for a snorkeling tour. There were some boats docked and people with snorkeling gear. I didn’t stay for that long. Just enough to take a rest from the long walk and then walk all the way back to the place where I left my motorbike near Paulo Condor Resort. This trail is not marked on Google Maps, but you can see it on the app Maps.me.
Best Viewpoint on the island
Next on this day, I decided to visit a viewpoint that is still under construction. I would never have discovered it if not for my hotel owner who told me about it. There is nothing on any map about it and construction workers were the only ones I saw during this jungle trail. So the trail starts in a dirt path seen from the main street. I was the only one doing it, so grateful to visit it that day!!
The jungle hike is kinda steep at times but not hard to do. The path is all paved. At the top, I had the most beautiful view of Con Dao island. WOW. This is why I came here. Beautiful shades of blue can be seen and a wide almost 360º view of Con Dao island.
From this viewpoint, I could see two beaches. A private one that belongs to Six Senses Con Dao, and Lo Voi Beach.
The sun was still shining for a while and I could see so many shades of blue. Lo Voi beach was on low tide and beautiful sandbanks could be seen as well as people walking far into the ocean. It was also possible to see Ho Quang Trung Lake and a ton of carnivore flowers that live in this area. So many!! I spent some time checking them out and seeing the insects they had inside. Cool.
The vegetation on this hill has grown pretty low. There were these trees that bent their trunks so low that they barely looked like trees. Very different vegetation which was nice to see either. The place was as peaceful as could be, just the construction workers were very surprised to see me there. They giggled and greeted me haha. I sat and enjoyed the silence the view had to offer. What a beautiful viewpoint I had found.
Nhat Beach Con Dao
I ended up my day seeing a freaking gorgeous sunset at Nhat Beach Con Dao that looks very different depending on the time of the day you see it. I was there for sunset so there was actually sand to walk on. During high tide there is no sand at all, but beautiful shades of blue that the water reveals. Looking around from this beach is gorgeous, the most beautiful Con Dao beach I would say. I saw the iconic pointy mountain in the distance and surrounding me was this lush green mountainous terrain that gives a charm to this area.
The water temperature was perfect at sunset time. The waves were kinda strong and not many were venturing into the water, but I had lots of fun jumping in the waves in this spot, and then admiring the brightest red sky to finish the day was absolutely mesmerizing. I ended up staying at the beach alone as I didn’t miss a bit of that red sky. Very good sunset-watching spot from this beach that is very popular as a picture spot.
