I spent too much time in Dalat so I had time to visit most of the attractions that are near town. Also, I was not lucky with the weather, and exploring in the rain doesn’t sound very attractive. Still, I decided to walk around town and visit a few things.
Crazy House
As an architecture lover, I couldn’t skip a visit to the Crazy house. The Crazy house is a private property in Dalat very distinguish from the other ones. That’s why they call it the crazy house, cause its architecture is out of the ordinary which makes this place with a crazy design stand out.
The Crazy house is a complex of several houses with a whimsical design. Houses that could be out of a fairy tale movie. To enter you need to pay an entrance fee of 35.000 dongs but this place is unlike anything you might have seen in case you haven’t been to Barcelona or one of Gaudi’s designs.
There are several houses and each one has a different design and theme. I don’t know which one is my favorite, but I was truly impressed with the place. They were all connected by some air bridges that were pretty cool to walk. From the top, you can have a view of the surroundings. When I visited they were in the process of building more crazy houses.
The place is super cool, colorful and I wasn’t expecting it to have so many things to see. The houses are pretty big and I watched every corner of them for some more inspiration. The place is actually a hotel and you can spend a night over there in one of the thematic bedrooms. The place had many people visiting and I think I would feel weird with so many people on the corridors and trying to sneak into the bedroom. Each bedroom has a different source of inspiration as decor, so it’s fun to see how they look like. I spent longer than I was expecting at the crazy house, and I recommend a visit.
Pink Church
Another place that wasn’t very far from where I was staying was the Pink church or Domaine de Marie. This is basically a pink catholic church that stands out for its color. On the back, there are some gardens that look very pretty, but besides that, there isn’t much to do here. I came cause I had nothing else to do.
Linh Son Pagoda
This is another place I visited out of boredom. It’s a cute temple on a hill, surrounded by pine trees and very quiet. I actually enjoyed visiting it, despite the bad weather, cause I have never been to a temple surrounded by pine trees. Might sound silly, but for that reason, it felt weird. I think only there I noticed that the trees make all the difference. I confess that I prefer palm trees. The temple was pretty empty so I sat waiting for the rain to go. It’s a chilled place.
Dalat night market
Another thing that travelers love to visit is the local markets. This one is not that big but has a lot of food offers. Here you can buy strawberries, which are not usual in Vietnam. Dalat is very known because of its strawberries and therefore attracts many Vietnamese due to the different products that can be found in Dalat due to its cooler weather. Dalat also serves as a refuge for many Vietnamese trying to escape the hot weather in the south.
Dalat Food
There was also this dessert everywhere with avocado mousse and coconut ice cream. I usually don’t mention food when I write, but you need to try this one.
And another incredible dish that I found only here. OMG, it was so tasty that I went there more than once. The place selling it is the most Vietnamese kind of restaurant you can find. It’s a stove on the sidewalk and a tiny little stool where you can sit. Vietnamese looked very surprised to see me seating there haha. I think this is not the type of restaurant where foreigners usually go. The dish is a Mini Pancake or “Banh Can” and it has a round shape. The lady is cooking it on the stove in front of everyone in a tray with several round-shaped holes. You will easily spot it.
And another food I should mention is Che. – I had so much free time that I was always eating…
Che is a very sweet dessert typical in Vietnam. It can look like the weirdest thing in the world but it is so yummy. They can mix beans, tofu, seeds, peanuts, many weird things that I don’t even have an idea of what they are but still, I decided to try. They also have one with a grilled banana that is awesome!!
If you go to this place Che Nhu Y, you will not regret it.
Last but not least, Yersin Park
This is the area where loads of people will be gathering at dusk. The park is next to the lake Ho Xuan Huong that usually attracts many people around it. It was around here that I saw the sunset and I found it a good place to do so.
I was expecting Dalat to be way more touristy. I actually didn’t come across many foreigners while walking on the streets of Dalat, or maybe they are somewhere else in town.
