If you are staying in Ho Chi Minh for a while and have already seen the most touristy spots in the city, it’s time to discover other Ho Chi Minh non touristy places where you will not find many foreigners or actually any foreigner.
The city is huge and also has many temples to visit, some of them non touristy at all. But you can also go to other places and enjoy authentic Vietnam here in the city
A neighborhood colored by hand by an old Vietnamese in District 4
The streets of this neighborhood not so far from the city center are very colorful! They are painted by hand by an old man that dedicates himself to decorate the walls in the neighborhood where he lives. Walking here is a colorful and delightful journey. It makes the place special and pleasant and the locals are very friendly as I believe they know we are there to see the artworks. The place is very photogenic and charming. If you feel like walking on the non touristy streets of Ho Chi Minh, you can have a pleasant walk in this place. Adventure yourself in those tight streets and discover which walls were embellished.
Address: Hẻm 64 Nguyễn Khoái, phường 2, Quận 4
Saigon water bus
This is basically a bus on water and its purpose is non touristy. The boat runs a few times per day and connects the city center with the neighbor districts. However, this is a great way to meet the city and have a pleasant and relaxing moment to enjoy the city without all the traffic chaos. From the river, you will have a wide view of the city and you will cross the tallest building in town. At that moment many people stand to take pictures of the iconic skyscraper.
I would advise going on the last boat as you can enjoy the sunset on it as well as see the view during daytime and night time, which is also very charming. The boat trips last about 1h. At the last stop, you leave the boat and wait for it’s departure time. The total wait time should not be much longer than 15 minutes. There is nothing to do at the last station so just enjoy the calmness of the place.
Cầu ánh Sao – starlight bridge
A little bit far from the city center is the Starlight Bridge, a non touristy place in Ho Chi Minh that is also worth a visit. you should visit the bridge by night, as it is during night time that the color show will take place. Basically, the bridge is transformed into a colorful waterfall. A nice color show that is surrounded by pedestrial area, so if you wanna chill, this is a cool place. It’s super relaxing having your milk tea sitting in the grass while hearing the sound of the water followed by bright colors. I honestly thought it was a very relaxing place. Just nearby you have Crescent Mall, a nice one to do some shopping. Be aware that the color show is just on for a limited time.
Rin rin park
This was another non touristy place in Ho Chi Minh that I found on my own. It’s also far from the center, and I’m not sure that it is worth a visit. For me, it was cause I had nothing else to do. The place itself is very beautiful and not crowded at all. No foreigners and not many Vietnamese as well. This is basically a Japanese style inspired garden with some karpas swimming around and a very beautiful scenario for pictures as it is very well maintained. However, the garden is pretty small and there isn’t much to see or where to walk. I just lay there looking at the fishies. You need to pay an entrance fee which is not more than 1€ so it was ok.
3D museum- ARTINUS
This is not the cheapest non touristy attraction in Ho Chi Minh. The price is 7USD per adult which is a lot having in mind the price of all other things in Ho Chi Minh. But, it is a nice entertaining place, and I was there with a kid, which made much more sense. Basically, you walk through walls filled with 3D paintings. This is a place to take pictures and have fun while doing it. Be creative! On the floor, there is a sample of how to take a picture in each scenario. The museum has many different paintings. Very interesting and fun.
