Koh Lanta is a Krabi island not very busy and not so far from Krabi town. The trip from Krabi to Koh Lanta takes about 3h. But that is just an average as it really depends on some factors like ferry waiting times and where are you located on the island (if north or south part).
I was living for one month in Koh Lanta, and during that time I visited Krabi a few times, not for the best reasons but anyway. From Koh Lanta to Krabi town I paid 300bh, but my destination was Ao Nang.
From Koh Lanta to Ao Nang
If your final destination is Ao Nang, you have 2 options:
300bh minivan from Koh Lanta to Krabi town bus terminal + 60bh Songtaew from Krabi bus terminal to Ao Nang
500bh minivan from Koh Lanta to Ao Nang
I did the first option always. But, later, on the last journey, I was moving from Koh Lanta to Ao Nang, therefore carrying all my stuff and having some pain- this month was not a good one. I had only bought the ticket from Koh Lanta to Krabi town, but the driver proposed I pay him 150bh extra and he would drop me off in Ao nang. I accepted cause it ended up being cheaper than buying the ticket directly and because I was not feeling very well and making it harder for myself to reach my destination was not an option. It’s funny how your health condition can change everything.

But, to move in the opposite direction- from Ao Nang to Koh Lanta- I found a place offering 400bh. So I always did it that way. But there are other options.
You can go to the Krabi bus terminal and buy a ticket there from Krabi to Koh Lanta for 250h. The thing is that if you go there like that you have no idea what time will be the next minivan available or when you can board on the journey. That was the reason why I never did it. And as I said before, you can go by Songtaew, the local bus, from Ao Nang to Krabi bus terminal for 60bh. The problem with this one is also that you never know when will it show up haha
I faced more problems because it is the Covid era and there are just a few tourists in Krabi and in Ao Nang, otherwise, as it states at the bus stop, the bus is supposed to run every 10 minutes. As there aren’t enough tourists, the bus was not showing up that often, and it wouldn’t make any sense anyway…
Even once, I was on the bus waiting for it to departure, and I asked the driver what time does it leave. He answered me in 10 minutes. But then he said that if I pay him 200bh we can leave now. WTF! I thought these buses had scheduled departures, but apparently, they leave when they have a few passengers, haha. Luckily it didn’t take long for 2 more people to show up, and then off we go. The Songtaew (local bus) from Ao Nang to Krabi town takes about 45 minutes and costs 50bh. It is the cheapest way to get from the beach to the town. You just have to wave when you see it and the driver will stop. He can also drop you off wherever you want as you can simply ring the bell for the driver to stop.
