Finding worth visiting off-the-grid spots in Vietnam isn’t that easy as everybody seems to head to the same places, so finding info about new ones in English is not that easy. It takes more research work, but it is possible. This street I’m about to introduce to you was a difficult find. I even asked a local who is from Quang Ngai province about it and he had no idea about it haha. This street was found purely by scrolling around Google Maps on satellite mode trying to find patterns along the street that look like rice fields. I found it! Finally, I found the street where the beautiful rice fields in Quang Ngai seem to be!!
Vietnam has many beautiful rice field landscapes but they are further north in Sapa and closer to China. Well, I am in the center of the country and I don’t have those many days of holiday to go so far from Ho Chi Minh, so I had to find an alternative to Sapa’s rice fields a bit closer and Quang Ngai has some. *I took too many pics that day… enjoy the views
QL24B street in Quang Ngai
The plan was simply to ride along this street: QL24B. If you search for it on the map you will see the route I followed. I was lucky to meet a guy at the hostel who I convinced to join me on this trip so I was on the motorbike’s back and enjoying the scenery all day long, which was awesome I confess haha.
We spent more than 8 hours on that motorbike that day and it was indeed very tiring. If it was tiring for me to sit on the back, I can only imagine for the rider…
We didn’t have luck with the weather.- It was February. I was moody all day and we also caught some rain, but not that much. We still rode. The idea was to ride all day and enjoy the views around us and damn what views we got.
I was very excited about this motorbike trip because I knew nothing about what was ahead. It was a total discovery and it ended up being more beautiful than I expected, so it was definitely worth it. This is not a popular route for foreigners whatsoever. The proof was the many stares and hellos we had along the way.
We left Quang Ngai City at about 9.30 am and went back at 6 pm after a day spent through luxury green scenarios worthy of dreamy landscapes.
This was the street we followed:
Deo Violak Viewpoint
We followed QL24B until the viewpoint: Deo Violak and a bit further to see if we could go past the clouds, but we couldn’t. It was super cloudy and we rode among the clouds for quite a while with very poor visibility. We couldn’t see a thing in front of us, so, at some point, we stopped and asked a car that was coming down the mountain if it was sunny ahead. But they said it was raining so we decided to not proceed higher in the mountain and go back down with marvelous views. So beautiful up here. I was so glad I found this street!
We did this trip during the Vietnamese New Year: the Tet holiday. I don’t know if it was because of that or not, but we didn’t see many places to stop to eat along our way besides the closest part to the city itself. So we stopped at Tram Dung Chan Violak, not far from the viewpoint, to have some noodles.
Son Ky Viewpoint- rice fields
This Place called Son Ky Viewpoint is close to the best ricefield views we had. There is a stretch of the street right next to the river where there are a bunch of rice fields and some terraces too. This was the best view of the day. We rode a few km with rice fields on both sides of the street. What a beautiful lush green scenery! What a stunner! This street is worth riding along, truly! And this was the highlight of QL24B.
Street DT625
We decided to take another street on the way back to Quang Ngai and I’m glad we did because it was beautiful too. It was street DT625. It was way windy and with many more slopes, ups, and downs, but we were truly surrounded by mountains right next to us. This street was rougher but still very doable and the views were gorgeous. I recommend it too.
Deo Long Mon
On this street, we came across a waterfall that could be clearly seen from the street. So cool as we were not expecting it. Basically, everything was very unexpected that day. We also saw many rice fields along the way to a waterfall that required an entrance fee so we decided we wouldn’t visit. The name of this waterfall is Khu Du Lich Sinh Thai Thac Trang. Maybe it is worth a visit, but it was late too, so we skipped it. This was our last stop of the day before heading back to Quang Ngai City. What a day! *the motorbike rider had his own motorbike so I didn’t rent one.
