After 2 days trip to get from my hometown in Portugal to Mandalay in Myanmar, I’m already in Mandalay enjoying the calm vibe of this country on my first bike trip ever. I’m back to my favorite country ever. I have visited 19 different countries so far and this is the only one I’m visiting for the second time. I just love Myanmar!
Getting here with Ympek bicycle wasn’t easy… During the way, I needed some useful help from some nice Portuguese guys that helped me out on the moments I was needing the most. I thank them so much for this as without them my back would be hurting a lot more right now. People in Portugal are really kind, as I always hear about my fellow countrymen when I’m abroad.
I have been to Asia before but only this time I realized what Jet Lag is. I was feeling so exhausted from all the flights, bus rides, and train until getting to my final destination that before getting to Mandalay, I start feeling the Jet Lag. I was in Bangkok waiting for my flight to Yangon when all the sudden I start feeling dizzy like I would faint at any moment… I could barely keep my eyes open, and being awake was a nightmare. I truly thought I wouldn’t make it to Myanmar. I had never felt like this before in my life so it was pretty scary being alone in such conditions. Next time I know that I can’t spend so much time without any proper sleep.
I make it to the airplane and I slept since before departing until the moment we land. The flight was still too short for the amount of sleep I had to recover. From Yangon, I still have to go to Mandalay on a sleeping bus. Of course, the first thing I do once I arrive at Ostello Bello is to sleep.
After a few hours of proper sleep on the first bed I have seen in days, I’m able to explore a bit the city on my Ympek. The staff at Ostello Bello is loving it! Everyone wants to take a ride on my Ympek and the bicycle is not getting tired of so many compliments. The staff here is so welcoming and nice! What a lovely place, and very well located too.
As I have slept for a long time, this day I only visited St. Joseph church that was actually closed, so I couldn’t check the inside. Then I’m going across the walls of Mandalay Royal Palace that was under the golden light hour of the sunset. I have been here before, but still, this is a wonderful place that I loved to review. I have visited the Royal Palace on my first trip, so this time I just cycle around it. I was cycling around 3h this first day of my bike trip, and my butt already hurts. I definitely need to buy some cycler clothing for this trip…
By the night there is a very pleasant light show in this area of Mandalay Royal Palace with Burmese music.
Next day of my bike trip I will be visiting Min Kun, that is on the other margin of the Irrawaddy river, but I haven’t visited it before so I’m really excited!
