I have been in Thailand in 2018 and I remember very well that people kept talking about Chiang Mai. At that time I didn’t visit the North of the country, so I decided to go there this time and visit the city.
Chiang Mai is very different from everything I have seen in the previous 2 months in Myanmar territory. It is a modern city, very western looking with loads of fancy places to eat and chill and tons of hostels and hotels. I even found a place at 50 cents per night!!! There is really a huge offer for tourists in Chiang Mai and the city itself is full of western faces.
Therefore, this is not my kind of favorite place to travel to, but Chiang Mai was actually very pleasant. I heard people say it is chaotic and very stressful, but I actually didn’t find it that way. Maybe because I have lived in Ho Chi Minh… I have only been to one city worst than that and it was Delhi in India.
So, for me, Chiang Mai has a cool and relaxing vibe, very fancy, and not a cultural chock. There are, of course, lots of places where you can get a massage and I decided to do one at 7 Century Nail studio that I totally recommend! Basically all I did in Chaing Mai was visiting temples. Yes, the city has so many temples that I can’t even tell. Huge, big, normal-sized temples can be seen at almost every corner of the city center that lies within a squared area on the map. All I did in Chaing Mai was explore its temples walking. This way, I walked, walked, and walked until my feet hurt. Chiang Mai is a huge city! I also took this chance to eat a ham and cheese 7 eleven toast 😀
After wandering around the city for 2 complete days, here is my selection of the best Chiang Mai temples that you must visit. After a few ones, another different temple turns into just one more temple. I think Thai temples are incredibly beautiful and so well preserved. I never get enough of temples, but if you are not a big fan, you might get bored of temples.
Anyway, here are the Chiang Mai temples in the city center that you should pay a visit:
Wat Chedi Luang
Wat Chiang Man
Wat Dok Euang
Wat Khuan Khama
Wat Lok Moli
Wat Pa Pao
Wat Phan Tao
Wat Phra Singh
Wat Rajamontean
