I’m taking the overnight bus from Mandalay to Nyaung Shwe (Inle Lake), and the bus departs at 10 PM and arrives Nyaung Shwe around 6 AM the next day. If it was now, I wouldn’t do it.
I say goodbye to the staff at Ostello Bello Mandalay that I loved to meet. I will surely go back there if I come back to Mandalay another time. I took the JJ express bus at the bus station in Mandalay, and to get there I went on a tuk-tuk from Ostello Bello.
I usually don’t mind taking the night bus, but this particular one from Mandalay to Nyaung Shwe I wouldn’t take again. The way to Nyaung Shwe is across the mountains in Kalaw, so the street is full of curves and bumps. This will not allow you to sleep much, and besides that, I got bus sick.
To have an idea, I’m inserting a picture of the street below, so you can check how it looks like:
I usually don’t get sick on bus rides but this one was so aggressive that I was feeling really bad. I was able not to throw up, but I was really close to it. It’s almost like trying to sleep in a roller coaster, with your head from side to side, up and down. And this is mainly the reason why I don’t advice this night trip from Mandalay to Nyaung Shwe. During the day it is ok, as I made this path from Kalaw to Bagan, and the view is nice, and as you are awake, the feeling of sickness isn’t coming…
This trip leads me to sleep a lot on the following day, but happily, Ostello Bello Nyaung Shwe has some really comfy beds at the rooftop for early arrivals from their guests with a cozy blanket waiting for you. I was needing this so much!! They also have toilets and showers on the rooftop. It is just perfect for the guests that are coming this early.
Ostello Bello in Nyaung Shwe has some really nice facilities, and I could watch the sunrise on this same day on the rooftop, as by the time of my arrival there was almost sunrise time.
