At the Hostel where I’m staying, I met Tom, a nice German guy with whom I spent my 1st day in Bangkok. There are a lot of things to visit in Bangkok, but on this day we visited Lumphini Park and its surroundings.
Lumphini Park is a really nice place to chill out for a bit in the middle of the city. You don’t hear the city noise, you are surrounded by nature and it is a big space to go for a walk and stay next to its lakes. I decided to sit for a while next to one of the lakes and when I look at my side, I see what resembles a big tail. I’m thinking: NO, that can’t be an animals tail! Because if it is, it means it’s big and I will not like it. I can’t believe my eyes when I see a big lizard (for me it was huge) just walking around. I haven’t seen any signs stating that you can find big lizards also having a walk in the park. That was a big and scary surprise. I sat too close to him!!! It would scare me to death if I found it even close to where I am.
In fact, there are a lot of big lizards at Lumphini Park. Swimming, resting, walking, they are part of the park. As I don’t like reptiles, that wasn’t a pleasant sight. Anyway, I was standing there for a while just observing them.
After the Park, we went to Unicorn Caffe by sky train. It’s the first time I’m inside a sky train and the last. This is not the cheapest option to move around the city. I pity that the windows are kind of covered and I didn’t have a good sight for the outside urban landscape.
I love the Unicorn Caffe. It’s the most colorful place ever with a magical ambiance involving it as it’s decoration are unicorns and my favorite colors. There are unicorn toys everywhere. In fact, you can rent, or buy an unicorn suit and wear it at the store for some Instagramable pictures. I really liked to visit this fairytale inspired place and its menu is full of colorful options. I recommend sitting inside for some freshness because Bangkok is super hot and humid.
After the Unicorn Caffe, we went to watch the sunset at one of the tallest sky bars in the world: the Sky Bar – Lebua at State Tower. This is the tallest sky bar in Bangkok. We walked until there for more than 30 minutes and you can’t be dressed as you wish to go inside. You need approval from the staff to go to the rooftop. For instance: men can’t wear shorts, doesn’t matter what type of shorts it is. They can’t also wear all kinds of pants, for example, the so beloved elephant pants are not allowed. My partner Tom already knew about this so he had some pants to exchange in the bathroom. The view is awesome and you can get the sight of all the city. Bangkok it’s a huge city full of skyscrapers. I really enjoyed the view and I recommend it, and it is a must visit in Bangkok.
Drinks up there don’t fit backpacker’s budget. The only thing you can drink with 5€ is water. Yes, now imagine the rest of the menu…
On the way back, already dark, we came by boat. Riding a boat is so cheap. I was paying 15bath for a 20 minutes journey. Ridiculously cheap, and riding a boat is always a cool thing to do to watch the city. But for foreigners is hard to know where it stops, so we missed our stop and this way needed to walk for 30 min back to the Hostel.
So far I’m really liking the things to visit in Bangkok and for me, it doesn’t sound so much chaotic as many people say. But I’ve been in India...
